Nexa Advisory submission – Powerlink REZ design and development considerations

Nexa Advisory is pleased to share our recent submission to Powerlink to inform the development of the Queensland Renewable Energy Zones scheme.

We commend the broad work already undertaken by the Queensland Government and Powerlink on their leadership towards the state’s decarbonisation – particularly through the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan, SuperGrid, REZ Roadmap, and early community engagement through Readiness Assessments.

In moving away from the national planning and investment frameworks, Powerlink must deliver an efficient REZ scheme and access regime which meaningfully adds value to managing the physical system while ensuring investment certainty for generation and storage proponents. It should learn from the work undertaken in New South Wales and Victoria to provide confidence to provide a higher level of market confidence and reduce unintended consequences or delayed investment that may be associated with this policy change.
