Nexa submission to the Economic Reform Roundtable: Investing in the net zero transformation

Australia’s economic future depends on secure, reliable, and affordable energy. As global and domestic growth slows, productivity is the key to lifting living standards—and clean energy is central to that mission.

The clean energy transition offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity to drive investment, create jobs, and build a more resilient economy. But Australia is falling behind. Investor uncertainty, ageing coal infrastructure, and delays in transmission projects are slowing progress and increasing costs.

We’ve submitted a comprehensive report to the Productivity Commission outlining three urgent priorities:

  1. Coordinate the exit of coal-fired power stations to unlock investment in renewables, storage, and transmission.
  2. Accelerate transmission infrastructure to attract capital and fast-track over 70 GW of clean energy projects already in the pipeline.
  3. Unlock the potential of Consumer Energy Resources (CER) and demand-side solutions to improve affordability, reliability, and resilience—especially for regional and industrial users.

Investor certainty and a focus on governance and enabling processes, is essential to securing Australia’s economic future.  Rather than relying primarily on direct government funding, the focus should be on creating stable, transparent and efficient regulatory environment that unlocks private capital and accelerates the delivery of critical infrastructure and innovation.
