Consultation: Wholesale Demand Response
17 Nov 2020
Submissions Due: 17th November, 2020
Under the Wholesale Demand Response Mechanism (WDRM), from October 2021, consumers will be able to sell demand response in the wholesale market. These rules introduce a new way to participate in the wholesale market and will have a broad range of impacts across the energy sector as the rules of the game change.
AEMO is seeking input from stakeholders on market and system operation procedures methodologies and guidelines relating to wholesale demand response. Specifically:
- Market Suspension Compensation Methodology under NER clause 3.14.5A(h)(i).
- Procedures for Issue of Directions and Clause 4.8.9 Instructions under NER clause 4.8.9(b).
- Intervention Pricing Methodology under NER clause 3.9.3(e).
- Constraint Formulation Guidelines under NER clause 3.8.10(c).
The WDRM represents major market reform to the wholesale market that will have implications for retailers, aggregators, consumers and existing and emerging technology providers.
